Net zero carbon

by 2040

The Climate Pledge is a collective effort for leading companies to work together in achieving a bold goal of net zero carbon by 2040 – ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement.

The Climate Pledge means committing to achieve net zero carbon by 2040 and agreeing to three principles which are aligned with the SME Climate commitment:

  1. Regular Reporting: Measure and report greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis;
  2. Carbon Elimination: Implement decarbonization strategies in line with the Paris Agreement through real business changes and innovations, including efficiency improvements, renewable energy, materials reductions, and other carbon emission elimination strategies;
  3. Credible Offsets: Neutralize any remaining emissions with additional, quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially-beneficial offsets to achieve net zero annual carbon emissions by 2040 or before.

The Climate Pledge was founded by Amazon and Global Optimism in September, 2019. The two agreed to join forces by launching The Climate Pledge, a pledge for companies to work together on ambitious actions to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040, and ten years earlier than stipulated by the Paris Agreement.

The SME Climate Hub and the Climate Pledge have partnered to provide SMEs a single commitment to join the Climate Pledge through the SME Climate Commitment and for Climate Pledge signatories to direct their SME suppliers to the SME Climate Hub.

Your 2030/2040 commitment makes you eligible to join The Climate Pledge and to be a part of a community that exchange best practices and innovation around a wide variety of emerging solutions that are appropriate to signatories’ plans to decarbonize their business operations.
