Calculate your business emissions

See how your business can start taking meaningful action

Calculating your emissions is a
critical first step

The climate crisis is getting worse

To limit the worst effects of climate change, we need to halve emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050.

Every action helps

Though the individual footprint of an SME might be small, together SMEs contribute a sizable amount to the global carbon footprint. SMEs make up 90% of global business and are the foundation of the world’s value chains.

What’s the relationship between the SME Climate Hub, Normative, and Google.org?

The Business Carbon Calculator is powered by Normative and offered for free through the SME Climate Hub. Normative is the founding software partner of the SME Climate Hub and continues to build technologies to allow SMEs to take more comprehensive, simplified climate action. Normative received support from Google.org in order to create the Business Carbon Calculator.

Why am I leaving this site to access the tool?

Because the Business Carbon Calculator was created by Normative, an SME Climate Hub partner, it’s hosted on their site. Normative has deep expertise in carbon accounting and has created tools to measure your business emissions. You can go back to the SME Climate Hub at the end of your calculation to continue your journey.

What methodology are you using to calculate emissions?

The Business Carbon Calculator follows the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the widely-used international protocol for carbon accounting. The engine uses science-based emissions data and a combination of business spending and activities to calculate your company’s emissions. Each data point you add to the Business Carbon Calculator corresponds to a specific emission value, to calculate your total carbon footprint. You can learn more here.

How is this tool different from the other tools currently available on the market?

The Business Carbon Calculator is a free tool designed specifically for SMEs and the businesses committed to the SME Climate Hub. It helps SMEs measure both their direct emissions and indirect emissions that come from things like heating and cooling, or are generated as part of their supply chain.

The Business Carbon Calculator is also unique because it’s part of a larger set of SME Climate Hub tools that empower SMEs to make an internationally recognized climate commitment, measure and report on their emissions, and take action to reduce their footprint.
