In 2020 we made the SME Climate Commitment. Recognising that climate change poses a threat to the economy, nature and society-at-large, our company commits to take action immediately in order to: Halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030 Achieve net zero emissions before 2050 In doing so, we are proud to be recognised by the United Nations Race to Zero campaign, and join governments, businesses, cities, regions, and universities around the world that share the same mission. We recognise that these dates are far too far away. We should be reaching Net Zero long before then. Scotland has pledged to be a Net Zero nation by 2045 but even that is too long and so we are going to try to get there even faster. We have already made some changes but we still have a lot to learn about how to do it.

Scope 1 near-term target. Our scope 1 emissions are from 2 sources: 1)our vehicle use, driving to markets and events and taking deliveries to customers. We intend to buy an electric car in the future when we can afford it and when our car needs replacing. This may not be for several years. 2)The use of natural gas for heating premises and for use in the process of heating water and melting oils etc. In 2024 we will be moving into a renovated building which will be heated by electricity and in which there will be an electric water heater and hob. The target is for this change to reduce our scope 1 emissions by 50%. We do not have a Scope 2 near-term target as our electricity is already from 100% renewable sources and so our Scope 2 emissions already stand at zero.

Although our emissions are zero as 100% of our electricity is from renewable sources, it is still important to try to increase Energy Efficiency at work in order to use less. What we do: - we have installed LED lighting in the Soap House - Turn off lights when not in rooms - Housekeeping of emails – delete / empty junk folder / bin etc and reduce emails where possible - We turn off the computer / printers / radio when not using rather than having them on standby mode

Scope 1 Actions

own facilities

Yes

We are going to move into a newly renovated building which will be fully powered and heated by renewable electricity so we will no longer be using gas for heating. The new building will be very well insulated so less heating will be needed.

own vehicles

Yes

When we need to replace our vehicle, we are planning that it will be an electric one.

own processes

Yes

When we move to the new building, we are going to install an electric hob so that we will use renewable electricity in the production of our soaps, rather than natural gas.

scope 2 actions

purchased electricity

Yes

We already use 100% renewable electricity. However, it is important to be as energy efficient as possible to reduce the amount of electricity that we need to use. What we do: - LED lighting in the Soap House - Turn off lights when not in rooms - Housekeeping of emails – delete / empty junk folder / bin etc and reduce emails where possible - We turn off the computer / printers / radio when not using rather than having them on standby mode
