1.2 Describe your business activities

*
Binit is a next-generation tech-led waste and recycling company based in Exeter. We are here to revolutionise the industry and redefine how businesses think about waste. We offer a smart, responsive service based on data, analytics and our unique collection network. We operate on an Uber-model which offers our customers flexibility and less vehicle movement (minimising CO2 production). We do not operate any vehicles, but we own our bins. We are industry disrupters. Where other management companies increase their revenue with increasing waste collections, we have a genuine interest in helping our customers decrease their waste and recycling more while still maintaining our revenue using tech. We do this by offering subscription services alongside our waste collections.

2022

2.2 Near-term target

*

50% of absolute total emission reduction from my base year by 2025

2.3 Provide any additional comments or context on your net zero and near term targets.

*
Binit aim to be Net Zero by 2025. We send zero waste to landfill wherever possible and work to support the development of infrastructure that will make this more achievable for our customers. As mentioned previously, we help our customers recycle more and to gather data so we can help them reduce the waste they produce and reduce heavy vehicle movements in our urban areas; to get litter off the streets. We are ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accredited. We will set and monitor objectives and targets for managing our environmental performance and aim to improve these each year. This year, our key objectives are to: apply to become a B Corp to enshrine our commitments in our legal structure and become Carbon Neutral and collate baseline data on our carbon performance for next year’s metrics. We reuse old or used office furniture whenever possible and promote a partnership platform to find new homes for office furniture and supplies which would otherwise be disposed of. The items we do need to purchase are from 100% recycled paper and other stationery is made from post-consumer waste. We consciously find office space in buildings that meet our high standards for renewable energy and high environmental standards in both their build and operations. We use our public platform to educate others, promote the circular economy and to encourage collaborative working as the only way to secure a truly sustainable future. Our dedicated customer service team work with customers to provide recommendations to improve their current service. For example, changes to frequency levels or implementing additional recycling streams. With our subscription services, we offer our customers access to carbon offsetting projects through Earthly such as agroforestry. All subscription customers have personal dashboards including reporting for features like recycling rate, benchmarking against sites and carbon emissions produced. We are also alpha testing hardware that will reinforce our data and improve infrastructure in the industry. The wider impact this has on our customers is that they can more accurately carry out carbon reporting, apply for B-Corp certifications, etc. We also have an app which customers can use to measure the fullness of their bins, which is not typically measured in the waste industry. We work with our customers to create bespoke waste and resource strategy, linked to any other pre-existing corporate strategies they may have. We can also help curate resources for behaviour change within organisations.
