2. Optimize packaging
Explore optimizing packaging to increase load density in delivery trucks.
3. Explore transport alternatives
Explore shifting to alternative modes of transport particularly shifting away from more carbon intensive modes like air transport.
4. Consider electric vehicles
Consider switching to electric vehicles if appropriate.
5. Develop a strategy
Develop a sustainable logistics strategy after determining what improvements you will take forward, including tracking success metrics.

Examples of SME actions

Improve and optimize packing and packaging to reduce shipping loads and fuel usage.
Implement vehicle telematics, which ​generate route tracking and driver behavioural data to help ​decrease fuel use and time on the road​.​
Switch to electric vehicles when possible and engage with logistics partners about the option to invest in electric or lower emissions fleet options.
​​Consider ​extending delivery times to make the shift to modes of transport with less emissions possible, such as to rail or sea freight.
