Giki set a Net Zero target from 2020 calculating emissions from operations (Scope 1,2,3) and then using offsets for residual emissions that we could not reduce in a given year. Each year Giki looks for actions that will further reduce our gross emissions.

We are looking to reduce our Scope 3 emissions by 50% by the end of 2025. We will continue to offset any residual emissions. As a fully remote organisation with no facilities Giki does not have any Scope 1 or 2 emissions.

We employ usage information in order to assess our carbon footprint. For example to calculate business travel we look at distance travelled by mode of transport. For purchased goods and services (primarily IT spending) we look at server utilisation and country emissions factors. We also include banking services, based on our own estimates of fossil fuel lending by banks using deposits, which goes beyond the standard investment scope 3 category.

We will conduct project in order to assess the carbon usage of our web app and app to see whether we can introduce Green UI in order to cut emissions. We constantly assess our server usage to see whether we can improve efficiency and utilisation.

capital goods

Yes

We have introduced a Giki benefit to reimburse computer repairs upto £250 pa. to encourage Repair, and not new purchase of computers.

As home working is the largest component of our Scope 3 emissions, we will continue to investigate ways to help our colleagues save more energy at home. We’ll also continue to run our internal Giki Zero Pro programme to help staff reduce their own carbon footprints. Although this does not directly affect Giki’s operational carbon footprint it is does help reduce overall carbon emissions. Over the year Giki employees completed over 200 climate actions.

We included financed emissions from our bank account in our Scope 3 calculations (this goes beyond GHG Protocol recommendations which cover investments and lending which we don’t do). In 2023 we’ll look to move to a bank which has a clear Paris aligned goal.
