We are a service-based business with a small, largely home-working team and no manufacturing, vehicles or owned premises. Boxless has made the SME Climate Commitment to completely reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and reach net zero. As a small, service-based consultancy with a largely home-working team, we have no scope 1 emissions, and around 86% of our footprint sits in scope 3: purchased goods and services, IT equipment, business travel and homeworking. Our targets are absolute and cover all three scopes. Our near-term focus is on extending the life of IT equipment and buying refurbished where possible, choosing rail over air for business travel, favouring suppliers with their own credible climate commitments, and supporting our team of subcontractors to move to renewable energy tariffs at home. We review our footprint annually using the SME Climate Hub carbon calculator and report progress publicly.

Our total emissions for the reporting period were 2.76 tCO2e, in line with the previous year. Scope 2 emissions (0.377 tCO2e) relate to heating our workspace, and scope 3 emissions (2.384 tCO2e) make up around 86% of our footprint, led by capital goods (0.75 tCO2e), purchased goods and services (0.67 tCO2e) and business travel (0.60 tCO2e). We have no scope 1 emissions. As a small consultancy our footprint is low in absolute terms, and it moves with a small number of decisions each year, such as replacing IT equipment or taking a flight for client work. Our focus for the coming year is on those areas: extending the life of our equipment and buying refurbished where we can, choosing rail over air, and favouring suppliers with credible climate commitments. We will continue to measure annually using the Small Business Carbon Calculator and improve the quality of our data, moving from spend-based estimates towards activity data where possible.
