2024

1.1.1 Reporting period

1.2 Describe your business activities

*
We are an architecture practice, providing services in architecture, urban planning, and interior design. We monitor the environmental and social impact of our designs and have committed to the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge, which provides a stepped approach towards reaching net zero.

1.4 Number of employees in the reporting year

*
34

1.4.1 Full-time equivalent (FTE) or headcounts

*
Full-time equivalent

1.5 Let us know if your company is a parent company or subsidiary

*
Not applicable

Commitment and Targets *

2.1 Net zero target year

*
2040

2.1.1 Base year

*
2023

2.2 Near-term target

*

50% of intensity scope 1+2 emission reduction from my base year by 2030

90 of intensity scope 1+2 emission reduction from my base year by 2040

2.3 Provide any additional comments or context on your net zero and near term targets.

*
We are continuing to explore how we can set realistic targets to tackle our Scope 3 emissions. We are confident in the targets we have set for Scopes 1 and 2. As an SME, we are not expected to cut our Scope 3 emissions as much, but we are really eager to try.

Own Emissions *

3.1 To reduce emissions in line with my commitment, my company has a plan and is taking action

*
Yes

Energy consumption

3.2 Total energy consumption

*
31058 kwh

3.3 Renewable energy

*
18000 kwh

Scope 1 emissions

3.4 Scope 1 emissions

*
1.93 metric tons CO2e

Scope 2 emissions

3.5 Location based scope 2 emissions

*
4.25 metric tons CO2e

3.6 Market based scope 2 emissions

*
0.10 metric tons CO2e

3.7 Describe your plans and actions taken to reduce scope 1 & 2 emissions.

*
In October 2023 we moved the office floor supply from Octopus to 100Green, a 100% green energy supplier for both gas and electricity. The communal/staircase supply is in the control of our property management company and we are working on switching it to a green supplier so we have 0 market-based emissions.

3.8 Describe the calculation methodology and comment on the data accuracy, including any tools/methods used to calculate.

*
We gather monthly electricity meter readings to record a 100% accurate consumption figure. We input our data into Compare Your Footprint who calculates emissions using their in-built emissions factors.

Value Chain Emissions (optional) *

Scope 3 emissions

4.1 Have you measured any of your scope 3 emissions?

*
Yes

4.1.1 Total scope 3 emissions

*
118.61 metric tons CO2e

Supply chain related - upstream emissions

4.1.2 Purchased goods and services

*
108.180 metric tons CO2e

4.1.3 Capital goods

*
0.25 metric tons CO2e

4.1.4 Fuel and energy related activities

*
1.709 metric tons CO2e

4.1.5 Transportation and distribution (upstream)

*
0.131 metric tons CO2e

4.1.6 Waste in operations

*
1.757 metric tons CO2e

4.1.8 Employee commuting

*
3.194 metric tons CO2e

4.1.9 Leased assets (upstream)

*
3.390 metric tons CO2e

Customer related - downstream emissions

4.1.17 Do you have a plan and are taking action to reduce emissions from your value chain?

*

Yes

At the moment, we are only gathering data on our upstream emissions. Our Environmental Action Group are working towards determining the best way of gathering our downstream emissions (the buildings/projects we design). Our biggest contributor is purchased goods and services. It accounts for 90% of our overall emissions and 92% of scope 3 emissions. If we further break this down, the majority come from consumables (food, stationary, cleaning products), IT hardware, and business services (IT support, accountants, cleaner, insurers, etc). These are the three areas we will focus the most efforts over the coming few years. Either through purchasing more sustainable products or through engaging with the service providers to measure and reduce their emissions.

4.2 Have you asked any of your suppliers to set a net zero target (either voluntarily or as a requirement)?

*
No

4.3 Have you communicated your commitment and actions to any of your customers?

*
Yes

4.4 Describe the calculation methodology and comment on the data accuracy and any tools used to calculate your scope 3 emissions.

*
We currently rely mainly on £ spend data when gathering our Scope 3 emissions. Relying on £ spend data is going to skew the figures and may well be the reason the figures are so high. We will not know this until we can get more reliable data. The best way of doing this is to engage with as many of our services providers as possible. We would hope to get their emissions data and apportion it to us as a % of their turnover. This will be our main aim over the coming two years.

Climate Solutions (optional) *

5.1 Do you classify any of your existing goods and/or services as a climate solution?

*
No

Management, Strategy and Climate Risk (optional) *

6.1 What governance processes do you have in place for your climate strategy? Choose as many as are applicable.

*

Governance process in place,Person is responsible for climate strategy at board level

6.1.2 Is this person (or another at executive and board level) also responsible for climate risk?

*
Yes

6.2 Have you started to identify and assess your companies climate risks and opportunities?

*
No - we plan to in the next 1-5 years

6.3 Have you integrated climate and/or nature into your company mission statement or shareholder agreements? If yes, describe how.

*

Yes

We became a B Corp in March 2024 and this included a change to our Articles of Association which means we have to consider social and environmental impact in the course of our business activities.

6.4 Have you taken actions this year outside of your emissions to accelerate climate progress?

*

Yes

We have progressed the design of our building updates which will be taking place in summer 2025. We have also put in place a Sustainable Design Roadmap which links our projects to the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge.

Results, Challenges and Outlook *

7.1 Provide any additional comments or context on your annual results and progress from previous years.

*
