{"id":120502,"date":"2026-04-07T18:02:54","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T17:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/smeclimatehub.org\/?p=120502"},"modified":"2026-04-09T16:22:28","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T15:22:28","slug":"free-tool-helps-small-firms-cut-energy-bills-and-go-green-in-under-an-hour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/smeclimatehub.org\/fi\/free-tool-helps-small-firms-cut-energy-bills-and-go-green-in-under-an-hour\/","title":{"rendered":"Free tool helps small firms cut energy bills and go green in under an hour\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>LONDON, April 14, 2026<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Small businesses can create a tailored plan to cut energy bills and reduce emissions in under an hour using a new free online tool launched today.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;SME Climate Hub, in partnership with&nbsp;Giki&nbsp;and&nbsp;supported by the UK Government\u2019s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, has launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/smeclimatehub.org\/build-a-climate-action-plan\/\"><strong>Climate <\/strong><\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/smeclimatehub.org\/build-a-climate-action-plan\/?utm_source=press_release&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=climate_action_planner_launch\">Action<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/smeclimatehub.org\/build-a-climate-action-plan\/\"><strong> Planner<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;to help firms take practical steps to lower costs and go green.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Small and medium-sized enterprises make up around 90% of businesses globally and account for about half of economic output, but many lack the time and resources to develop formal climate plans.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;Climate&nbsp;Action Planner&nbsp;is designed to change that, offering a simple, guided process that produces a&nbsp;customised&nbsp;action plan in around 60 minutes. What might previously have taken weeks \u2014 or&nbsp;require external consultants \u2014 can now be done in a single sitting.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Users answer a short set of questions about their business and receive a step-by-step roadmap, drawing on a database of more than 750 actions.&nbsp;The plan is tailored to their industry and business goals, rather than generic, one-size-fits-all advice.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pamela&nbsp;Jouven, Director of the SME Climate Hub, said:<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cFor many small business&nbsp;owners,&nbsp;climate action can&nbsp;feel complicated and expensive. This tool focuses on what is practical \u2014 helping businesses&nbsp;lower&nbsp;bills&nbsp;and&nbsp;take action&nbsp;straight away.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis&nbsp;isn\u2019t&nbsp;just about going&nbsp;green \u2014&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;about staying competitive. By cutting energy waste and improving efficiency, small businesses can reduce costs, protect themselves from volatile energy prices and keep up with growing expectations from customers and supply&nbsp;chains.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key&nbsp;Features of the Climate Action Planner:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Free to use for SMEs globally&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Focus on reducing energy use and operating costs&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create a plan in under an hour&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tailored to business size and sector, with 750+&nbsp;available&nbsp;actions&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jo Hand,&nbsp;Giki&nbsp;Co-founder, said:&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cWe believe every SME should be able to build a climate action plan. For many, time and cost are barriers.&nbsp;That\u2019s&nbsp;why&nbsp;we\u2019re&nbsp;so excited to partner with SME Climate Hub to deliver the Climate Action Planner. Now SMEs can build their plan in 60 minutes, drawing on best practice from companies across the globe.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some small businesses have already been using the Climate Action Planner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Helen Tandy, Partner and Co-Owner of financial services company Castlefield<\/strong>, based in&nbsp;Manchester, said: \u201cThe implementation plans provide a clear&nbsp;roadmap for action, while the comprehensive&nbsp;database allows us to delve deeper into&nbsp;priority areas such as supplier engagement&nbsp;and office emissions reduction.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nicky Bancroft, Partnership Manager of health non-profit Think Active<\/strong>,&nbsp;based in Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire, said: \u201cAn invaluable timesaver and huge shortcut&nbsp;in our carbon reduction planning!\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>David Matthews, Director of commercial seating company Rhubarb Seating<\/strong>, based in Thame, Oxfordshire, said:&nbsp;\u201cI&#8217;m absolutely blown away. &nbsp;We have been&nbsp;trying for years to set out a plan. &nbsp;Thank you&nbsp;so much. One of the best and most useful&nbsp;sessions we have ever done.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Molly Francis, Client Experience Director of furniture company Addison West<\/strong>, based in the US, said: \u201cIt\u2019s&nbsp;in a helpful, user-friendly format.&nbsp;The language&nbsp;makes sense.&nbsp;It\u2019s&nbsp;straightforward to understand the questions and the actions we can use&nbsp;to meet our goals.
